Small shelters fostering hope.

For today's Shelter Shoutout, we're in Chicago at the Pet Supplies Plus on N. Lincoln to learn more about their partnership with Precious Pets Almost Home. This small, 100% volunteer shelter operates without a traditional brick and mortar location. Instead, they personally foster each and every rescue while they await adoption. Once a month the store becomes a homebase for the shelter; giving the animals and the organization an opportunity to meet the public in person and hold adoption events that often result in permanent, loving homes for the pets.

With support from Hill's Science Diet, Pet Supplies Plus is able to donate much needed food and supplies to animal shelters across the country. Being part of the Chicago community, too, we take a ton of pride in being able to support them with donation drives and in-store adoptions.

We also had the chance to stop by the Pet Supplies Plus store in Wicker Park to spotlight their partnership with a unique shelter working in the community. Whiskers and Tails is the first rescue organization in Chicago to focus strictly on Trap-Neuter-Release and Trap-Neuter-Adopt programs. This proven strategy involves humanely trapping feral or stray cats and transporting them to a veterinary clinic where they are spayed or neutered and given additional medical attention. Our Wicker Park store works with Whiskers and Tails regularly to host adoption events and raise awareness for the important work they're doing for the community.
